Deforestation does not destroy the entire ecosystem, so the regrowth that would occur will be secondary succession. If deforestation were to stop, trees would be able to grow back fairly quickly because much of the forest is still there. However, if burning trees for charcoal, logging, slash and burn agriculture and other harmful activities continue to occur, the forest might be so depleted as to be unable to regrow back the way it was.
